Jason De Haan (AB)

Jason de Haan (Edmonton, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist settled in the Alberta Badlands alongside Akokiniskway (the river of many roses) on Treaty 7 territory, the traditional lands of the Blackfoot confederacy. Working responsively and according to various encountered conditions de Haan’s projects explore resonance, broadcast, deep time, unseen forces, concentration, residuals, synchronicity and activation. His practice is diverse, with a wide and increasingly multidisciplinary approach to sculpture, collage, drawing, photography, video, text, and book works.

In the ODD Gallery: ANNIE CANTO & JASMINA MAJCENIC

The ODD Gallery will transform into a community laundromat for this collaborative, interactive installation by Annie Canto and Jasmina Majcenic. The public is invited to do their washing and drying within the gallery for the duration of the exhibit and to participate in a series of community events and programming.

A studio is like a bubble or a cave in that, if you want, you can stay hidden away from the world for days and weeks, even months on end.  I have spent a lot of time holed up in my studio over the last couple of years – sitting in there, painting and drawing and imagining life outside its walls.  I started painting bunkers, lunar landers, suburban bungalows, and other “refuges” that I had read about in books or watched in movies as a child in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
