Trutiak’s practice teeters between video, sound, performance, installation, and sculpture. Survival and destruction, resilience and resistance are significant themes within Trutiak’s practice.
Animated Gif Workshop, November 17 & 29
Make an Animated GIF with Aritst-in-Residence Chantal Rousseau! Experience the magic of making your art come alive! This workshop will introduce the basic animation principals of movement, looping, framing, and timing as well as strategies for making animation cells. Using free online software, you will learn how to make an animated GIF from drawings or photographs – digital or analogue. This workshop is geared to ages 12 up, and all levels of artistic experience. $40 KIAC members, $45 general public. Call 993-5005 or drop in KIAC to register.
Chantal Rousseau/Darcy Tara McDiarmid: Open Studio October 20
Current artist in Resident Chantal Rousseau will be showing 2 to 3 animations in progress, projected in different locations in Macaulay House. The works are inspired by stories about birds, told to her by people she’s met in Dawson City during her residency, as well as by her own encounters with local wildlife. Attendees are invited to see some of the watercolours that form the animation cells, and Chantal will be happy to explain her working process for those interested.
