DRAG 101: HISTORY, INSPIRATION & MAKEUP DEMO

Tuesday, November 26, 7:30. KIAC Ballroom/Dënäkär Zho.

clone tag: -360266343226898690

Join KIAC artist in residence Kai Bryan aka \garbagefile for a fun and fabulous romp through the art of drag and some wicked makeup demos. Ask and discuss a few key questions, like:

  • What is drag, anyways?
  • What do we mean by “gender impersonation”?
  • What different styles of drag are there?
  • Can anyone do drag?

And most importantly…

  • How do I get rid of these pesky eyebrows???

This three-hour session will take a speed-run through past and current trends in drag, but primarily focus on drag makeup. Backslash will demonstrate a variety of skills including foundation, contouring, and how to make your eyebrows disappear! You will learn a simple way to design and test makeup looks on paper. Watch in amazement as you learn to craft all new lips, noses, cheeks, and eyes with nothing but makeup and a couple false lashes.

This workshop is perfect for beginner drag and makeup artists, burlesque and theatrical performers.

Free, limited to 8 participants. Please register in advance by e-mailing  kiac@kiac.ca or call 993-5005.

While everyone is welcome, we especially encourage 2SLGBTQIA+ folks to sign up early!
