Front Desk Reception Term Position

Assistant Level Position
Start-date: July 2, 2024 (or earlier if possible)
End-date: August 31, 2024 (potential to extend until Nov 1, 2024)
Wage: $22.44/hour plus vacation pay
Hours: 35 hours per week (negotiable)
Schedule: Tues – Fri 9am – 5pm, Sat 12 – 4pm
Location: Dawson City, Yukon

The Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City is seeking Front Desk Reception support for the busy summer season. Are you interested in working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment interacting with the public and supporting arts programming. The successful Front Desk Reception applicant will assist with front desk tasks, administrative support, and help promote KIAC programming to community members and visitors. KIAC is seeking a friendly and helpful troubleshooter who will be the first point of contact for people seeking information about KIAC programming.    


KIAC Reception / General Assistance Duties

  • Work with the Office Administrator to offer front desk reception support
  • Sit at the front desk to greet and assist the public, including providing information about KIAC programming to community members and visitors as well as redirecting the public to the appropriate places depending on their needs (i.e. Visitor Information Centre and Dànojä Zho Culture Centre)
  • Respond to general phone inquiries and forward calls to the appropriate department
  • Work closely with the Office Administrator on tasks such as sending out a weekly newsletter, summer Artist Market coordination, program registration, record-keeping of ticket sales, equipment and venue rentals, and other front desk duties
  • Assist with event promotion and marketing including poster design, social media content creation, digital marketing, taking photos to post to social media, updating the bulletin and sandwich boards, etc 

The successful candidates must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in administration, including knowledge of (or able to quickly learn) Google Suite (gmail, docs, sheets, drive), social media platforms, and design software (canva or adobe), or similar programs
  • Is familiar with (or able to quickly learn) how to take payments through Square using an iPad 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada 

The following are considered assets:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and/or Indigenous cultures in Canada.
  • Knowledge of Dawson City, its services, and its resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Klondike Institute of Arts and Culture (KIAC) operations.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Understanding of basic financial record keeping procedures.
  • Website management or other web-based skills such as knowledge of mailing list software (eg. WordPress or Mailchimp)
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent, ideally in arts and culture 
  • First Aid Certification

Examples of past workshops: Intro to Screen Printing, Mosaic Birdhouses, Tap Dancing for Adults, Kids Dance, Watercolour Painting, Stained Glass, Soundscape Composition, Ceramics, and much more!
Workshop Instructor wages are $25-$35/hr depending on experience.
