Spring Concert Series: Brigitte Jardin + Jared Klok & The Second Hands

The Klondike Institute of Art & Culture and the Dawson City Music Festival Association are thrilled to present live music at the KIAC Ballroom – Dënäkär Zho this season! Musicians from throughout the Yukon will share their work in a concert series, with each concert showcasing two artists for two nights.
Brigitte Jardin
Brigitte Jardin gets inspiration from traditional country, old-time & Cajun repertoire. She navigates between guitar, washboard, drums, vocals & foot percussion. As a queer bilingual woman, Brigitte incorporates French and English stories that explore gender themes as part of her performance. She usually plays with a supporting band malleable to the occasion, including slide guitar, fiddle, upright bass & drum kit.
Brigitte creates a soundscape that is both familiar and unique. She pays tribute to women roots singers who impacted the industry, such as Cléoma Breaux, the first Cajun women who recorded music in Louisiana; Gallant tu perds ton temps, the first traditional all-women band in Québec; and Barbara Dane, a political activist and folk-singer from Michigan.
Originally from Quebec, Brigitte was involved full-time in the Montreal music scene as a drummer. She is now a renowned artist in the Yukon, actively performing with Ryan McNally, Claire Ness and many more for the past seven years. Brigitte Jardin has now decided to focus her time, work & love on her country-folk musical project.
Brigitte is the Dawson City Music Festival Association’s 2021 Songwriter in Residence.
Jared Klok & The Second Hands
Some folks know Jared Christopher Klok as a half-decent, retired Zamboni operator. A few, for whatever reason, call him “Rusty.” But if you’re in the right place at the right time, you may come to know him as a string-plunker, a word-worker, and a bit of a scoundrel behind the mic.
Raised on the Prairies, salted a while on the Atlantic Coast, Klok has since fallen for Dawson City’s charms. His songs follow the long gaze of a flatlander with wit and whimsy to boot.
We are committed to providing a safe concert-going experience, so please note the following:
• All concerts are all-ages.
• Each concert will have very limited capacity with physical distancing in place.
• We are offering advanced tickets only. You may purchase tickets in clusters of up to four (5) people to be seated together.
• All concert-goers will be required to wear a mask. If you do not own a mask, disposable ones will be available.
• All concert-goers must be seated upon entrance and remain seated throughout each set (except for bathroom breaks). There will be a 10-minute set changeover, but audience members cannot mingle in the venue.
• Artists will be performing live off the floor rather than on stage to ensure proper spacing when needed.
• Friday Night shows will be broadcast live on CFYT 106.9fm and cfyt.ca from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm for those who cannot attend.
• If you feel sick at all, please contact KIAC for a refund and stay home.
• We are following the public health situation closely, and we are prepared to cancel, postpone, or alter all shows if needed.

Artist In Residence Activities & Outreach
Artist in Residence activities include artist talks, studio tours, interactive events, and more.
Founded in 2001, in a partnership with Parks Canada, the KIAC Artist in Residence Program has welcomed over 300 talented artists, musicians and filmmakers to Dawson City from all regions of Canada and around the world. Our alumni include Sobey Art Award nominees, Western Canada Music Award winners, and prize-winning filmmakers from film festivals across the globe.

ODD Gallery
The ODD Gallery, located in the Dënäkär Zho / KIAC building, presents a wide array of outreach programming including artist talks, openings, lectures, screenings, youth programs and other special events. Gallery programming fosters professionalism and appreciation of regional visual arts practice, and provides the community with exposure and access to a diverse range of contemporary visual arts practices and theories in a remote, northern setting.

Kids & Youth Programs
Kids & youth activities include: music lessons, art classes, dance classes, book readings, toddler classes, after-school programs.
Year-Round Programming
Kids and Youth (toddler to teen) programming ranges from music lessons (vocals, piano) to dance class (ballet, hip hop, and more), to hands-on workshops (pottery, screen-printing, animation and more) and is offered regularly throughout the year. KIAC strives to subsidize Kids & Youth programs as much as possible via grants and funding. Programming ranges from free Drop-Ins to registered weekly programs.
Youth Art Enrichment
Youth Art Enrichment is an annual four-day art program for Yukon youth hosted by the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture in Dawson City. Artistically-inclined youth ages 14 – 18 travel from across the Yukon to take part in intensive workshops led by professional artists. Students choose one of three mediums to study for the duration of the program, learning new skills, techniques, and ways to creatively make artwork for the world to see. The mediums change every year: we have offered printmaking, animation, painting, carving, stained glass, illustration, improv, and much more over the last two decades.

Performing Arts
Performing arts activities include: concerts, theatre and dance performances, open mics, radio broadcasts, special events, and more.
KIAC presents a year-round professional performing arts series in the beautiful second floor Ballroom that actively engages our community and provides inspiring performance opportunities for international, national, and regional artists in many disciplines. Our diverse programming includes jazz, classical, folk & roots, experimental, dance, theatre, and more.
Workshops
Workshops include: weekly drop-ins, registered programs, weekend workshops, and more.
KIAC presents a year-round schedule of educational opportunities ranging from drop in programs (pottery, screenprinting, seniors painting, concert band), to registered workshops (dance, music, film, visual art, craft, textiles, etc), to professional development opportunities for artists (grant writing, artwork documentation, etc).
