The Tradition Lives On: 4th Ed. of the Dawson Daily News Print & Publishing Symposium

print symposium imageThis year the Print & Publishing Symposium is happening August 13th and 14th during the bustling Yukon Riverside Arts Festival weekend. It’s an event that highlights the history and future of print using traditional tools to explore old & contemporary methods. It will involve artist talks, open studios, interactive demonstrations, and publication projects featuring artists from across Canada, such as Todd Stewart (Montreal, QC), Emily Davidson (Halifax, NS) and Peter Braune (Granville Island, BC).

During the symposium there will also be four workshops, two on each day of the weekend, that allow you to explore printmaking with established artists John Steins and Joyce Majiski. The workshops will be drop-in style and offered at the cost of materials. It’s an event made possible by the Dawson City Community Library, the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture, and Parks Canada with the financial support of the Yukon Arts Fund.

The creative pre-event “Dawson Daily News Postcard Story Competition” challenges storytellers to grab a postcard, 150 words and write a story on the theme of “Gone Wild”. The competition offers the prize of $250 (that’s more than a dollar a word) and the winner’s postcard will be read at the symposium’s closing event, which will be broadcast through the local radio station. The deadline for submission is August 3rd, 2015 and all postcards can be sent to KIAC.
