June 3 – June 30
Liz Toohey-Wiese is an artist from Vancouver BC who will be continuing her artistic research into wildfires while at the KIAC residency. Picking up a pamphlet at the Whitehorse Visitor Center called “Driving the Fire Belt” which mapped historic fires along the Klondike Highway, she is interested in how tourism frames wildfires differently in the Yukon as compared to BC. Along with working on paintings, she is also editing her third edition of “Fire Season”– an artist book on the topic of wildfires. Copies of past editions will be available during the Gallery Hop at the Riverside Arts Fest (https://yraf.ca/yraf-schedule/). She would like to meet Dawson City locals involved with forestry and wildfire fighting in the Yukon while she is staying at the KIAC residency, so please don’t hesitate to make contact with her during the month of June!
