Brittney Rand is an electronic music artist, sound recordist, and contemporary composer based in Edmonton, Alberta. Trained in Digital Music Production for film & gaming, she co-founded electronic duo Mu in 2013, gaining international acclaim with their 2016 album ‘II’ released via Boompa Records (Fader, Stereogum, Exclaim!, CBC Music, Gorilla vs Bear, Dazed). After several years with Mu, Rand established her solo project Cherrie Laurel, releasing ‘A Furnace, A Fire’ in 2018. In 2020, Cherrie Laurel composed ‘The Silence Files Vol. I’, exploring ambient works for a “contemporary quarantined species”.

Her music has been performed at both domestic and North American stages such as Wonderment Electroacoustic Festival, Sled Island, Upstream Music Festival, Houseguest Festival (Portland Museum of Modern Art), among others. Rand’s original compositions and music have since been featured in independent shorts, advertisements, and feature-length films, showcasing her as a promising and innovative composer known for dynamic storytelling at the intersection of visual media and sound.
