Toronto-based jazz trio Myriad3 may have formed by happenstance fewer than four years ago, but musically these young guys are old souls with great skills as performers and songwriters. Myriad3 is modern jazz, meets classical, meets pop, meets Oscar Peterson. Their debut album Tell was released on Universal/Alma Records in 2012 and a new recording is on the way. Comprised of Chris Donnelly on piano, Daniel Fortin on double bass, and Ernesto Cervini on drums, the trio has cultivated one of the most persuasive piano trio sounds in contemporary Canadian jazz. They have a flair for improvisation and an instinct for interplay. Whether performing a Duke Ellington blues or, more likely, one of their own edgily beautiful tunes, these are some of Canada’s most intense and exciting jazzmen.
