Submission Guidelines

The ODD Gallery is a contemporary exhibition space housed in Dënäkär Zho / the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC), on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in territory in Dawson City, Yukon.

The ODD Gallery’s year-round programming features solo and group exhibitions (selected and curated by committee) by regional, national and international visual artists. The gallery also presents a wide array of outreach programming including artist talks, openings, lectures, screenings, youth programs and other special events. Gallery programming fosters professionalism and appreciation of regional visual arts practice and provides the community with exposure and access to a diverse range of national and international contemporary visual arts practices and theories.

The ODD Gallery invites proposals from regional, national and international visual artists and curators working in all mediums and disciplines.

ODD Gallery is accessible by ramp (at back entrance). 

ABOUT KLONDIKE INSTITUTE OF ART & CULTURE

Located at the edge of the arctic circle, on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in territory in Dawson City, Yukon, KIAC is: ODD Gallery; Dawson City International Short Film Festival; Yukon Riverside Arts Festival; Macaulay House Artist in Residence Program; The Dawson Daily News Print & Publishing Symposium; Performing Arts Series, Community and youth programs, workshops, courses. With Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation and Yukon University, KIAC is a partner of the Yukon School of Visual Arts.

FEES & FINANCIALS – 2025

The ODD Gallery will pay a solo exhibition fee of $2,574 and provide one-way shipping assistance up to $500. Artist talk fees of $541 will be paid to visiting artists for a presentation on or around the exhibition opening. In addition, the Gallery will commission a short text and cover the production of promotion and dissemination materials such as invitations and exhibition brochures. The ODD Gallery provides food and beverages for all our exhibition openings.

While the Gallery will assist with installation and will cover basic production expenses, the artist will be responsible for installation logistics and all other expenses such as transportation, travel, framing, specialized equipment and major painting/repairs. All work exhibited in the gallery will be insured up to a total value of $25,000 for the course of the exhibition including time in transit.

All media will be considered within current space and equipment limitations. Gallery facilities consist of 700 sq feet with 90 ft of running wall space at a height of 9 ft 6 inches, plywood lined walls, LED track lighting, basic installation hardware and tools, electrical outlets placed low on the walls, electrical outlets in the ceiling, monitors, DVD or mediaplayer (subject to availability), HD projector, plinths.

Artists are responsible for any additional required equipment or display materials.

Proposals Must Include:

If you do not submit a form (part A) AND submit the supporting materials (parts B and C) by the deadline, we will not consider your application. All applicants must submit both on time.

B. Include all of the following in one PDF:

* Please include only the requested material in your proposal package. Packages that do not include all the required materials will be deemed incomplete and will not be considered.

  1. Contact info (name, mailing address, email, phone)
  2. Exhibition Brief (50 words or less)
  3. Exhibition Proposal & Artist Statement
    Max 1 page combined. Excess text will not be presented to the selections committee.

    1. Please confirm that you are applying for a gallery exhibition.
    2. A clear and concise description of the proposed exhibition, listing any special requirements.
    3. An artist’s or curatorial statement relating to the proposed work.
  4. Current CV(s) (max 3 pages)
  5. Corresponding Description of Documented Work (full details for labelling artwork in part C)
    1. Still Images – a numbered list indicating artist, title, medium, dimensions, and date
    2. Video/Audio/Time-based Work – a description indicating artist, title, medium, duration and date of work.

C. Documentation of Work – Read Carefully

Still Images:

  • 10 to 20 images saved as .jpg or .png files (TIFF, HEIC and other file formats will not be accepted and will be disqualified from your portfolio).
  • Maximum file size 1920 x 1080 at 72 dpi in RGB colour mode
  • Label each image with a number and title – start the first nine images with a zero (01title.jpg, 02title.jpg…10title.jpg) to ensure they are presented in the order you wish.
  • When attaching files to your email, we will accept:
    • Images to emails.
    • Google Drive folder links (make sure the folder is publicly viewable), Dropbox, WeTransfer etc
    • Compressed ZIP files zip files.
    • Note: DO NOT embed images in emails OR as individual Google Drive links.

Film/Video/Audio/Time-based Work:

  • In one separate PDF, provide url link(s) to video and audio files (ie, Google Drive, Vimeo, Youtube, SoundCloud etc) making sure these are publicly available.
  • Total running time is not to exceed 10 minutes.
