SUMMARY:Begonia (live concert) at Dënäkär Zho / KIAC Ballroom
DESCRIPTION:Pegged as Canada’s breakout alt-diva\, Begonia has built a legion of fans online and at her legendary live shows. Her critically acclaimed discography includes Lady In Mind EP (2017)\, Fear (2019) and Powder Blue (2023). Among her accolades\, she has two JUNO nominations (2021\, 2024\, Adult Alternative Album of the Year)\, two Polaris Prize nominations\, multiple #1 songs on CBC Radio\, and was named one of NPR’s Artists You Need to Know. \nHer sophomore album\, Powder Blue emerged in early 2023 and confronts themes of sexuality\, self discovery\, acceptance and empowerment. She has been playing sold out clubs and theatres in North America\, and recently supported indie-all-star\, Leith Ross\, on their European tour. \nHer vocal prowess has the power to absolutely floor an audience\, evidenced at her Polaris Gala performance. Co-written and produced by Alexa Dirks and Marcus Paquin (The National\, The Weather Station\, Arcade Fire) along with contributions from her frequent collaborators and producer duo\, deadmen\, the EP is a project that “encompasses the feeling of working through conflict and the elation that can surface when you’re honest with others and ultimately yourself. \n“With a rich sound and unshakeable confidence\, Canadian-born Begonia is a force to be reckoned with.” – Wonderland Magazine (UK)\n—\nDoors open – 7:30 / Music – 8:00\n$27 General / $25 KIAC Members / $18 Youth / Student / Accessible\n$30 at the door \nTickets on sale here! \nTo volunteer\, click here! \n–\nThank you to our funders:\nGovernment of Canada\nYukon Government

SUMMARY:ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE - Johannas Zits B2B Nicole Sleeth ARTIST TALK
DESCRIPTION:Thursday September 19th @6pm – 8pm\, in the Dënäkär Zho (KIAC) Ballroom – Bar Service Available \nJOHANNES ZITS\nWith the use of audio-visual performances\, Johannes will be sharing his exploration of the sentience of nature. In working with the natural environment\, Zits extends the notion of the performer to include nature itself. Considering nature as an equal ensures that it can be neither construed as a passive prop nor adored and fixed in the realm of the sublime. \nNICOLE SLEETH\nCentred on the female gaze as an exploration of power\, connection\, and lived experience\, Nicole’s current body of work explores themes of home and belonging\, queer domesticity in a rural setting\, vulnerability and mortality\, and her relationship with the natural landscape. Within this context\, she examines contrasts between public and private life\, outdoor domesticity\, and how memory influences present emotions through metaphor.
