DESCRIPTION:Join us at KIAC and learn to make hand puppets with Emilie McGrath! \nWe will be spending two evenings working on creating and decorating a puppet in the KIAC classroom from 6-9 PM on July 22nd and 23rd. \nThis workshop is open to anyone however\, if you are under 14 please bring an adult. \nThis is a no-sew puppet so there is no need to bring a sewing machine. DESCRIPTION:BRUNCH OF DREAMS – a post-sleepover party \nSunday\, July 27th. 11 am – 4 pm \nAt the KIAC Artist Residence in the Macaulay House and Yard space. \nCindy Baker and roses invite you to their Brunch of Dreams\, a post-sleepover party-style performative workshop and art installation where you will be encouraged to share your dreams\, play art games of chance\, and leave with a permanent magical memento inked onto your body by the artists themselves. \nTake time to rest\, tend\, and attune to shared symbology as we partake in aftercare rituals – bask in the energy of the afterglow. \nWear your pyjamas\, bring a snack or drink to share (brunch\, coffee\, and mimosas provided)\, and your collaborative spirit that we may create a space for generosity and care. \n  \nMacaulay House Artists in Residence: Roseanna Joy Nay (roses) and Cindy Baker  \nDuring their residency at the Macaulay House\, artists Roseanna Joy Nay (roses) and Cindy Baker will explore themes of intergenerational queer mentorship\, shared intimacy\, and the unconscious mind through a collaborative\, exploratory art practice. Their project will focus on the intersection of personal and collective dreams\, using an intuitive\, object-driven process to develop a shared language of symbols\, histories\, and queer vernacular.\nInformed by the landscape of Dawson City and the local history\, the duo will embark on a creative journey that blends the conscious and unconscious—allowing their dreams and waking experiences to intertwine.\nTheir practice will focus on building an embodied “dreamspace\,” where daily rituals\, found objects\, handmade props\, and materials drawn from their shared queer semiology will help manifest a collaborative unconscious landscape. While the exact outcome of their residency remains open-ended\, their aim is to create a space where meaning emerges from irrational imagery\, dreams\, and everyday interactions.\nThe residency will be a deep dive into the ways intimate\, intergenerational queer relationships inform artistic creation\, with an emphasis on mutual care and exchange. Both artists hope that the residency will help refine their collaborative process\, enriching their work and inspiring new ideas that might evolve into future public or private presentations.

Many small towns have shops selling a broad variety of goods\, often a general store. The open studio includes artworks that span various mediums and concepts related to their shared experiences. \nThe pair are drawn to the historical impacts of colonialism and the gold rush in Dawson City and current initiatives for reconciliation with First Nations\, and instilling respect for the land. DESCRIPTION:Work on FILM this fall at KIAC\nOver the past few years\, the DCISFF has been running the Dawson Film Lab project. This has involved filmmakers (local and non-local) coming to Dawson City to experiment and work on media projects to enhance their craft. \nThe focus has gravitated toward analogue film processes (8mm and 16mm)\, and most recently involved the usage of eco-safe developers using local plants and/or caffeine. This year we are adding cameraless filmmaking\, scratch or paint directly on 16 or 35mm film. \nAn exclusive opportunity to work in Super 8 or 16mm film in a workshop environment from September 14-28 at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture. \n\nThere will be 2 mandatory get-togethers: one at the beginning and one at the end of the workshop.\nParticipants can work at thier own pace (and times) and will have access to the KIAC Darkroom/Ballroom during the dates of the workshop (September 14-28).\n\nThis is a free workshop with limited space. DESCRIPTION:Co-presented with Whitehorse Concerts\n—\nLocation\nDënäkär Zho / Klondike Institute of Art & Culture\n902 2nd Ave \n\n\n\n— \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors open at 7:30 / Concert at 8:00\nTickets: kiacyukon.square.site \nArtistic Director Kari Turunen began leading the Vancouver Chamber Choir — Canada’s longest-running professional choir — in September 2019\, its 49th concert season. \nJon Washburn founded the choir in 1971 and it has become an amazing success story\, ranking with the handful of North America’s best professional choruses and noted for its diverse repertoire and performing excellence. The choir has presented concerts to audiences at home in Vancouver and on tour across Canada. International excursions have taken them to the USA\, Mexica\, Japan\, China\, Hong Kong\, Taiwan\, South Korea\, Finland\, France\, Germany\, the Czech Republic\, Russia\, Estonia\, Latvia\, Lithuania and Ukraine. \nHonoured with the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America\, the choir has performed countless concerts and broadcasts\, released 36 recordings and received numerous awards. Foremost supporters of Canadian music\, they are responsible for commissions and premieres of 334 choral works by 145 composers and arrangers\, most of whom are Canadian. Over the years the choir has sung over 4\,000 performances of works by Canadian composers\, in addition to their extensive international repertoire. \nThe choir’s award-winning educational programs include the Conductors’ Symposium for advanced choral conductors\, Interplay interactive workshops for choral composers\, Focus professional development program for student singers\, OnSite visitations for school choirs\, the biennial Young Composers’ Competition\, and many on-tour workshops and residencies. \n– \nThanks to our funders – Government of Canada\, Yukon Government\, and Canada Council for the Arts

DESCRIPTION:KIAC’s Artist-in-Residency Program is OPEN for New Applications 2026/27 \nAPPLICATIONS OPEN: October 21st\, 2025\nRESIDENCY DATES AVAILABLE:  September to December 2026 and April to July 2027\nLOCATION: Dawson City\, Yukon – Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Territory\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: January 6th\, 2026 (11:59pm Mountain Time)\nNOTIFICATION OF SELECTION: 8 to 12 weeks after deadline \nKlondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC) at Dënäkär Zho is now accepting proposals from artists and curators working in all media for the KIAC Artist in Residence Program.  \nSubmissions will be considered for the 2026/27 residency schedule. \nArtist in Residence Program: \nThe KIAC Artist in Residence Program accommodates two artists concurrently – for research\, development and production of ongoing or new bodies of work. Residencies are from 4 – 12 weeks in duration from September to December 2026 and April to July 2027. Artists are provided shared living facilities with individual studio space and bedroom at no cost. Participants are responsible for all travel and personal expenses including food and materials related to their work. \nThe Artist in Residence facilities are located in the Macaulay Residence. Built in 1901\, the home is now owned by Parks Canada as part of the Klondike National Historic Sites: Dawson Historical Complex. \nResidency Guidelines and Application Here\nNote: Fees are not provided nor charged for residencies. \nAccessibility:\nMacaulay House Residence is not wheelchair accessible\, and has several steps to enter the ground level\, with bedrooms and washroom up a flight of stairs on the 2nd floor.
