SUMMARY:Sarah MacDougall Live Concert at Dënäkär Zho / KIAC Ballroom
DESCRIPTION:Doors – 7:30 / Music – 8:00\nAdmission by donation at the door \nMultiple Award winning singer/songwriter Sarah MacDougall is known for her poetic songs and passionate performances. Sarah mixes folk\, pop\, and rock elements into her infectious\, often epic songs. Born in Sweden\, now based in Canada\, Swedish magazine Nöjesguiden declared her: “one of Sweden’s best singer/songwriters’ and Rootstime Belgium described her as ‘One of the greatest talents of our era”.\n\nSarah has played festivals such as Iceland Airwaves\, Edmonton Folk Festival\, Reeperbahn\, and has shared the stage with artists such as Bruce Cockburn\, Tallest Man on Earth\, Buffy St. Marie\, Passenger\, and more. \nHer most recent release\, ‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’ is a record about strength\, identity\, death\, the breakdown of relationships\, birth\, and the ghosts we honor and carry throughout. It is Sarah’s fourth record. It was written in the midst of the death of her grandparents\, the birth of her niece\, and a break up. The nine songs are also influenced by the places that made her and changed her: the dark beauty of Scandinavia the vastness of the Canadian North .\nSarah is working on a new album\, set to be released 2024/2025. \n— \nOpening up is Bird Feet: \nBird Feet is an evolving experimental sound project by Kim Edgar. Using looper pedals\, synths\, and other weird effects\, they create hypnotic and ritualistic live loops and then sing weird songs overtop! They released their first full length album\, Mercury\, in spring of 2024 \n— \nThanks to our funders: Yukon Government\, Government of Canada\, Canada Council for the Arts \nSpecial thanks to the Dawson City Music Festival Association for bringing Sarah up to participate in their Goldensides Studio programming.

SUMMARY:Community Screening: Mammoth Hunters
DESCRIPTION:A sneak peak at\nMammoth Hunters\n2025\, Yukon\nFritz Mueller\, Teresa Earle \nIn the summer of 2022\, a miner struck more than gold in Canada’s Yukon. A fully preserved infant woolly mammoth that died 36\,000 years ago protruded from the Arctic permafrost\, her flesh still pink and green grass in her belly. Mammoth Hunters is a feature documentary that takes us on a journey back through time as we join five mammoth lovers –– scientists\, artists and citizen detectives –– to solve the riddle of these ancient and charismatic animals. Like a puzzle itself\, the film blends ecology\, history\, spirituality and the mystery that is deep time to reveal the bonds that link humanity to these Ice Age giants. \nFilmmakers Fritz Mueller  & Teresa Earle and subjects from the film in attendance for a Q&A. \n$10 in advance or at the door \n(Cash Concessions) \n

SUMMARY:ARTIST TALK - Beyond the Algorithm: Art\, Ethics\, and AI with Cat Bluemke
DESCRIPTION:How can artists harness artificial intelligence as a meaningful tool rather than a threat? Join artist and educator Cat Bluemke for an engaging talk exploring her evolving practice at the intersection of emerging technologies\, game design\, and critical art-making. Drawing from years of boundary-pushing work\, Bluemke will share her journey and speak directly to the promises and perils of AI in creative spaces. \nThrough personal insight and practical examples\, this talk explores how AI can support artistic autonomy\, community engagement\, and collective authorship—without erasing the ethics of intellectual labor. Aimed at artists\, technologists\, and skeptics alike\, the conversation will also address pressing concerns around copyright\, consent\, and the commercialization of generative tools. \nThe session includes a 30-minute presentation of Bluemke’s work\, a 15-minute reflection on AI as a creative medium\, and a 20-30-minute open Q&A where attendees are encouraged to ask hard questions and challenge assumptions.

SUMMARY:WEAVING THE MIDNIGHT SUN Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening reception of Weaving the Midnight Sun\, a new exhibition celebrating the creativity and craftsmanship of Yukon fibre artists! \n Date: June 12th\, 2025 Time: 7pm – 10pm Location: ODD Gallery\, Dawson City Wine\, cheese and non-alcoholic beverages will be served Free & open to all! \n\nPresented by the Northern Fibres Guild \nWeaving the Midnight Sun is a celebration of fibre practice in the Yukon — a region shaped by long winters\, luminous summers\, and the steady rhythm of handwork passed between generations. This exhibition brings together the work of artists and makers from the Northern Fibres Guild\, an organization that has supported and nurtured Yukon fibre artists since its beginnings in 1974. \nRooted in traditional techniques like spinning\, weaving\, dyeing\, and felting\, and expanding into contemporary interpretations of textile art\, these works speak to the resourcefulness\, creativity\, and quiet resilience of making in the North. Each piece carries a unique story — of material transformed\, of time held in stitch and thread\, of ideas shared in community. \nLike the midnight sun itself\, these works radiate warmth\, clarity\, and a sense of wonder. They invite us to consider the power of slow\, intentional creation — and the ways in which fibre connects us to the land\, to each other\, and to the long thread of creative practice that we continue to weave together. \n\nWe are grateful for the support of Canada Council for the Arts along with the Yukon Tourism and Culture Arts Operating Funds

SUMMARY:From Rags to Rug: Community Loom Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:As part of Weaving the Midnight Sun and the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival\, textile artist Janice Brodie invites the public into the process of community weaving. \nUsing scraps\, old linens\, and fabric donated by Dawson locals and drawn from her own stash\, Janice will spend the day weaving a communal rug on a floor loom in the ODD Gallery. This is a celebration of reuse\, resilience\, and the stories we share through cloth. \nVisitors are welcome to stop in\, ask questions\, contribute material\, or even try weaving a few rows. Whether you participate for a moment or an hour\, your presence becomes part of the finished piece — a rug woven by many hands\, for many to enjoy. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome!

SUMMARY:WEAVING THE MIDNIGHT SUN
DESCRIPTION:CLOSED SATURDAY JUNE 21ST for INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S DAY \nDates: June 12th – August 30th\, 2025 Gallery Hours: Tuesdays – Fridays: 10am – 5pm & Saturdays: 12 – 4pm Location: ODD Gallery\, Dënäkär Zho |  KIAC Indigenous Territory: Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in territory\, Dawson City\, Yukon \n\n\n\n\n\nWEAVING THE MIDNIGHT SUN\n\n\n\nWeaving the Midnight Sun is a celebration of fibre practice in the Yukon — a region shaped by long winters\, luminous summers\, and the steady rhythm of handwork passed between generations. This exhibition brings together the work of artists and makers from the Northern Fibres Guild\, an organization that has supported and nurtured Yukon fibre artists since its beginnings in 1974. \n\n\n\nRooted in traditional techniques like spinning\, weaving\, dyeing\, and felting\, and expanding into contemporary interpretations of textile art\, these works speak to the resourcefulness\, creativity\, and quiet resilience of making in the North. Each piece carries a unique story — of material transformed\, of time held in stitch and thread\, of ideas shared in community. \n\n\n\nLike the midnight sun itself\, these works radiate warmth\, clarity\, and a sense of wonder. They invite us to consider the power of slow\, intentional creation — and the ways in which fibre connects us to the land\, to each other\, and to the long thread of creative practice that we continue to weave together. \n\n\n\nNorthern Fibres Guild\n\n\n\nThe Northern Fibres Guild is a community of artists\, makers\, and enthusiasts dedicated to the fibre arts in the Yukon. Founded in 1974 as the Yukon Weavers’ Guild\, the organization has grown over the decades to embrace a wide range of traditional and contemporary textile practices — including spinning\, weaving\, dyeing\, knitting\, felting\, sewing\, and more. Based in Whitehorse and open to members from across the territory and beyond\, the Guild provides a welcoming space for people of all skill levels to learn\, create\, and connect. Through regular workshops\, exhibitions\, artist talks\, and social events\, we foster the exchange of knowledge\, ideas\, and inspiration among fibre lovers of all backgrounds. Our members are united by a shared appreciation for slow\, hands-on making and the rich creative possibilities of natural and reclaimed materials. Whether you’re just picking up a drop spindle for the first time or have years of experience behind a loom\, the Northern Fibres Guild is here to support your fibre journey. Join us to be part of a vibrant\, intergenerational community where creativity is nurtured\, skills are shared\, and the threads of tradition and innovation are woven together in the North.. \n\n\n\nWe are grateful for the support of Canada Council for the Arts along with the Yukon Tourism and Culture Arts Operating Funds
