DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to welcome We See Stars Only At Night\, a new exhibition by Yukon artist Cole Pauls\, to the ODD Gallery. \nThis immersive installation brings Pauls’ latest graphic novel into the gallery space in its entirety—featuring 80 pages of original\, hand-drawn comics displayed across the walls. The work expands beyond the page\, with layered collage elements\, zip-a-tone textures\, and repeating shapes transforming the gallery into a dreamlike environment you can move through. \nCreated intuitively without a set script\, We See Stars Only At Night unfolds as a surrealist exploration of Tahltan culture\, storytelling\, and connection to land. The imagery moves between the personal and the collective\, weaving together animals\, regalia\, harvesting practices\, and cultural knowledge. \nBy presenting the graphic novel as both book and installation\, Pauls invites visitors to experience the story in a completely unique way—encountering each page as part of a larger\, living composition. \nCome spend some time with this powerful and imaginative work. \nAbout Cole Pauls \nCole Pauls is a Champagne and Aishihik Citizen and Tahltan comic artist\, illustrator\, and printmaker from Haines Junction\, Yukon. DESCRIPTION:Fake It Till You Make It is a series of workshops for those curious individuals looking to broaden their experience and skill set. Each session of FITYMI will be on a different subject\, which could fall under areas of expertise such as construction\, making\, baking\, electronics\, mechanics\, cooking\, jewelry\, physics\, plants\, and whatever else can be imagined. It is the purpose of the workshop to learn new things for the sake of learning\, and it is for this reason that participants will only discover the subject of each session upon arriving at the workshop. Beneath the stage is a crawlspace outfitted with a sleeping bag and pillows for more private realizations of those feelings. \nWe will also have supplies for letter writing to send love letters to freinds\, family\, and lovers all over the world! \nCupcakes and lemonade will be provided. DESCRIPTION:An exclusive opportunity to work in Super 8\, 16 or 35mm film in a workshop environment from \nSeptember 13-27 at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture. \nThe focus is on analogue film processes (8mm and 16mm)\, and involves  the use of eco-safe developers using local plants and/or caffeine. Participants can also work with cameraless filmmaking\, scratching or painting directly onto 16 or 35mm film. \nA Phytogram (sustainable\, camera-less photographic technique that creates images by reacting the natural chemical properties of plants with 16mm film under sunlight) workshop included. \nParticipants can work at their own pace (and times) and will have access to the KIAC Darkroom/Ballroom during the dates of the workshop (September 13-27). \nThere are limited spots available. DESCRIPTION:Dawson City Honky Tonk Music Camp is a three-day immersive Old Time\, Country & Bluegrass music camp. The camp will be held August 5-7 with workshops for beginners to intermediate musicians. There will be 3 periods of 3 workshops to choose from (9 total) every day from 2-6pm. Camp goers will have the choice of attending the same workshops every day or trying something new each day!  \nThe format of this camp is intended to create an inclusive space where everyone feels safe and welcome\, and where community and learning are at the heart of it all.  \nDawson City Honky Tonk Music Camp Registration and Payment:\nThere are two steps to register for the music camp. Step one is to fill out our google form to tell us more about yourself and what parts of the camp you are interested in. DESCRIPTION:Taiwanese-Canadian artist Edward FuChen Juan explores the intersections of personal memory\, collective history\, and decolonization through printmaking and handmade paper. Drawing from Taiwanese Gampi papermaking traditions alongside plants native to Canada\, Juan creates intricate works that weave together family histories\, cultural knowledge\, and reflections on displacement\, justice\, and healing.\n\nThe exhibition considers the legacy of Taiwan’s White Terror alongside contemporary conversations around truth\, reconciliation\, and Indigenous sovereignty in Canada. Through handmade paper\, intaglio printmaking\, and large-scale installation\, Memory Crimes invites visitors to reflect on how materials can carry memory\, preserve histories\, and create space for reconciliation.\n\nTo support this story\, KIAC & SOVA will be jointly hosting a Washi Paper Making Workshop as part of the Print & Publishing course\, open to the public.Saturday\, August 810:00 AM–2:00 PMMore details and registration information will be announced separately.\n\nAbout the Artist\n\nEdward FuChen Juan (阮福辰) is a queer Taiwanese Canadian visual artist working primarily in printmaking\, papermaking\, and inkmaking. SUMMARY:Washi Paper Making Workshop with Ed FuChen Juan
DESCRIPTION:Come join visiting artist Edward FuChen Juan in learning the foundation of handmade washi papermaking. He will introduce the couching techniques of creating thin paper from abaca palm fibre. The paper is usable for drawing\, writing\, painting\, and dyeing. Each participant will be expected to create their own stack of washi paper. Paper will be hung-dried until the next day for self-pickup. This is a workshop in partnership programming with his solo exhibition at the ODD Gallery\, August 6 to September 19\, 2026. \nAll materials will be supplied\, but wear clothing you feel comfortable getting a little messy. \nThe $5 fee covers materials costs. \nThere is a limit of 8 people for this workshop\, so make sure you register and pay for this event to confirm your spot. \nStep one: Register for the workshop here\nStep Two: Pay for the workshop here\nKIAC’s Registration Policy\n\nFor courses with associated fees\, registrants must pay for the course in full to confirm registration. DESCRIPTION:Michael Cloud Duguay – KINGDOM COME\, KINGDOM GO\nDoors open – 7:30 / Performance – 8:00\nCo-presented by Jazz Yukon \n— \nIn June\, 2024\, Canadian composer Michael Cloud Duguay and collaborators travelled over 1\,500km across Newfoundland in a self-built\, solar-powered mobile studio\, recording seven historic church organs in seven remote communities\, resulting in one of the most unique and imaginative albums ever produced in Canada. \nAt each stop\, the ensemble encountered remarkably different organs with unusual histories. Some were acoustic\, hand-cranked instruments while others relied on foot pedals to generate sound. Some were recently updated and featured digital keyboards and amplifiers. One had not been tuned in 120 years; another was buried beneath a pile of rubble in the upper gallery of a decommissioned Catholic church. \nWhile the foundation for the project’s material began with compositions and improvisational experiments\, the team’s collective interest in field recording\, spontaneous composition\, and responding to their environments shaped the work and enhanced its development. Duguay conducted a series of interviews with church wardens\, reverends\, congregants\, and community members at each location. These interviews explored\, from a secular perspective\, the history of the churches and foregrounded the progressive vanishing of these instruments as churches are shuttered while congregations decrease. \n— In addition to all of the album-focused recording activity\, the ensemble also diligently recorded each organ that appears on the album in order to document and archive them as digital midi instruments. These midi instruments will be released as sample packs to accompany the release of the album\, available for free to musicians\, composers\, and producers around the world for creative use. Duguay + his collaborators (Andrew MacKelvie\, Markus Lake\, Dave Grenon) will be touring and performing this material across Canada in Fall\, 2026\, putting to use the digital organ emulators that were designed and constructed by the team’s engineers. Thus\, the live performance does not require an actual pipe organ. Interpretations of the album material will be reproduced on digital instruments that precisely replicate the sound of the various organs and churches heard on the album\, accompanied by saxophone\, photo\, and live sound design and processing.
