Co-Artistic Directors Genevieve Doyon and Jessica Hickman have created many original plays including the verbatim piece Busted Up: A Yukon Story and a mask and puppetry show called Radio Silence which have both toured the country. Open Pit Theatre is currently gearing up for their first international tour to Osaka\, Japan in August 2025. \nLOOK UP \nLook Up is a series of intimate short performances which combines live visual animation\, storytelling and live foley soundscape. Look Up aspires to bring everyone back to the simple magic of storytelling. Everything you will see is analog and happening right then and there. Years later\, she approached visual artist and dear friend Virginie Hamel to finally start tackling the creative concept that had inhabited her ever since: “Let’s make a show for audiences lying on their backs”.

To mark this milestone\, KIAC and DCMF have teamed up for a concert series that brings back some of the most beloved participants from the past two decades. \nThe second show in the series features a full-band performance by Khari Wendell McClelland from Vancouver (BC). Khari was DCMF’s 10th Songwriter-in-Residence in 2015. He made a lasting impression on the Dawson community\, organizing a choir that continued to perform together long after his residency. \nWe are excited to welcome Khari back to Dawson City for a weeklong mini-residency. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved beyond his performance on February 15th. \nABOUT KHARI WENDELL MCCLELLAND \nOriginally from Detroit\, Khari Wendell McClelland has become a darling on the Canadian music scene\, with critics praising his performances as a clever mix of soul and gospel. Khari’s songwriting crosses genres and generations\, joyfully invoking the spirit of his ancestors who straddled the US-Canadian border in efforts to escape slavery and discrimination. His music draws from this rich history\, integrating the rhythms and folklore of early African-Americans with contemporary sounds and stories of struggle. Recently\, Khari received critical acclaim for his Freedom Singer project\, recreating the music fugitive slaves carried on their journey north into Canada. Khari also performs with the Roots Gospel group The Sojourners. Drawing from a singer-songwriter approach\, Rachel performs song recitals as both singer and pianist accompanying herself. Praised for her “unusually shaped recitals in keeping with her extraordinary talent” (Places des Arts/Festival de Lanaudière)\, Rachel performs internationally as a recitalist\, as solo pianist and singer\, and on the opera stage. Rachel was born in the UK\, raised on the west coast of Canada\, and is now based in Berlin. \nThe 2024/25 season sees Rachel make self-accompanied recital debuts at the Konzerthaus Berlin\, the Bechstein Hall\, the Virtuosi Festival in Brazil and the Algarve Music Series. She returns to her native Canada\, touring various programmes at leading festivals and venues including Salle Bourgie\, Vancouver Recital Society\, Domaine Forget\, Coast Recital Society\, ArtSpring\, SweetWater Music Festival\, and Music Toronto. The rotating lineup brings together artists with backgrounds in jazz\, classical\, rock\, hip hop\, and things in between. Featuring some of Whitehorse’s finest musicians\, Muster Point plays original music that blends and extends genres into sweeping journeys of groove. \n\n\nThe band grew out of a shared dream that live music is so much more than what can be rehearsed. Muster Point’s founding members bonded through Whitehorse’s professional breakdance scene; creating fully improvised music while reacting in realtime to the freestyle dance in front of them. These sacred hip-hop rituals tuned their minds to a different frequency and set the creative tone for Muster Point. Today\, the collective has grown to about ten artists\, with a core group of five that perform regularly. Megan believes she has one of the best jobs as the director of programming and communications for the BC and Yukon Book Prizes. Her critically acclaimed discography includes Lady In Mind EP (2017)\, Fear (2019) and Powder Blue (2023). Among her accolades\, she has two JUNO nominations (2021\, 2024\, Adult Alternative Album of the Year)\, two Polaris Prize nominations\, multiple #1 songs on CBC Radio\, and was named one of NPR’s Artists You Need to Know. \nHer sophomore album\, Powder Blue emerged in early 2023 and confronts themes of sexuality\, self discovery\, acceptance and empowerment. She moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her career\, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community\, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Paulo’s highly anticipated\, self-titled debut LP\, which arrived in spring 2023\, is a melodically dynamic\, heart-baring collection that finds her exploring the interconnected nature of relationships and the flow of time in lush\, sophisticated pop arrangements. The album’s textures come courtesy of production by Joshua Van Tassel (Villages\, Fortunate Ones) and Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta!). \nPaulo released her debut single\, the wistful “Please Don’t Forget\,” in 2019. Her debut EP\, Wave Call\, arrived in 2020\, featuring contributions from musicians Bravo Kilo\, Evan J Cartwright\, Kwame Appiah-Kubi\, and Tim Baker\, with production and engineering handled by David Gavan Baxter. Born and raised in Whitehorse\, Yukon\, they are the author of thirteen books\, the creator of four films\, six stage shows\, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s books have won the ReLit Award\, been named a Stonewall Honour Book\, been longlisted for Canada Reads\, and been shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize for non-fiction\, and the Governor General’s Award for non-fiction twice. In 2017 Ivan was given an honorary Doctor of Laws from Simon Fraser University\, and in 2023 they received the first Honorary Doctor of Arts ever bestowed on anyone by Yukon University. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity\, family\, class\, and queer liberation\, but always with a generous heart\, and a quick wit. Ivan’s 13th book\, Care Of\, was released in June 2021 by McClelland and Stewart and their new one-person show Playlist premiered in February of 2024. \n— \nSelina Heyligers-Hare (Hendrika) is a multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter and graduate from Selkirk College’s Music & Technology program. Along with Hendrika\, she is a member of bands such as Major Funk (two time WCMA nominees) \, Paris Pick (FocusWales 2021\, Keychange )\, the Naysayers (Coax Records) and was a transcriber\, songwriter and co-writer for Larrikin Entertainment’s newest musical WYRD. For Hendrika\, the stage is home\, she emanates a star quality while still being humble and kind in character. She will be touring this summer playing festivals such as Dawson City Music Fest \, ArtSwells and Lilac Festival.
