SUMMARY:Sarah Harmer Live at Dënäkär Zho / Klondike Institute of Art & Culture
DESCRIPTION:FRI\, OCT 3rd\ndoors open: 7:30\nshowtime: 8:00 \nwith an opening set by Corbin Murdoch\nCorbinMurdoch.Bandcamp.com \nTickets at the KIAC Store\n– \nSarah Harmer is a multiple award-winning\, platinum-selling singer-songwriter and environmental activist. Her solo music career launched with the now classic debut You Were Here (2000) and includes six critically acclaimed albums\, including her latest\, Are You Gone\, released via Arts & Crafts in 2020. \nA deeply personal and political collection of songs motivated by the beauty of life\, the urgency of the climate crisis\, and the question of loss\, Sarah called the album a spiritual successor of sorts to her acclaimed 2000 debut. Its simple title\, Are You Gone\, is a meditation on presence and a bookend to the questions posed on You Were Here – a sharpened\, more electric confrontation with the realities of nature and human nature. \nBetween co-founding the citizen’s organization PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) and leading the successful effort to prevent an open-pit gravel mine in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment\, Sarah has become a fixture in local politics and advocacy. In 2022\, Sarah helped launch the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition in her home province of Ontario to protect water\, farmland\, and biodiversity. This spring\, she received the prestigious 2025 Juno Humanitarian Award\, presented by Dr. David Suzuki in Vancouver BC for her human rights and advocacy work\, and was recently honoured with the keys to the city of Burlington presented by Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for her ongoing contributions to the region. \nSarah is currently writing songs for a new album. \n* * * * * \n“Are You Gone is the best album of Harmer’s career” \n– Globe and Mail \n“One of the most accomplished and affecting albums in her already \nremarkable catalogue” \n– Exclaim! 9/10 \n“Sarah’s voice remains as warm and wise as ever” \n– Paste \n“Are You Gone is a journey across time\, place\, learning\, and loss that Sarah Harmer is an incredibly gracious guide to take us on” \n– Folk Alley \n“A folky\, minor-key song about ice skating at night\, with a gentle vocal and a sturdy melody\, that maps a precarious relationship onto the wintry conditions.” (on St. Peter’s Bay) \n– The New York Times \n–\nThanks to our co-presenter The Yukon Arts Centre\nand our funders: Government of Canada\, Yukon Government\, Canada Council for the Arts

SUMMARY:Sarah MacDougall Live Concert at Dënäkär Zho / KIAC Ballroom
DESCRIPTION:Doors – 7:30 / Music – 8:00\nAdmission by donation at the door \nMultiple Award winning singer/songwriter Sarah MacDougall is known for her poetic songs and passionate performances. Sarah mixes folk\, pop\, and rock elements into her infectious\, often epic songs. Born in Sweden\, now based in Canada\, Swedish magazine Nöjesguiden declared her: “one of Sweden’s best singer/songwriters’ and Rootstime Belgium described her as ‘One of the greatest talents of our era”.\n\nSarah has played festivals such as Iceland Airwaves\, Edmonton Folk Festival\, Reeperbahn\, and has shared the stage with artists such as Bruce Cockburn\, Tallest Man on Earth\, Buffy St. Marie\, Passenger\, and more. \nHer most recent release\, ‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’ is a record about strength\, identity\, death\, the breakdown of relationships\, birth\, and the ghosts we honor and carry throughout. It is Sarah’s fourth record. It was written in the midst of the death of her grandparents\, the birth of her niece\, and a break up. The nine songs are also influenced by the places that made her and changed her: the dark beauty of Scandinavia the vastness of the Canadian North .\nSarah is working on a new album\, set to be released 2024/2025. \n— \nOpening up is Bird Feet: \nBird Feet is an evolving experimental sound project by Kim Edgar. Using looper pedals\, synths\, and other weird effects\, they create hypnotic and ritualistic live loops and then sing weird songs overtop! They released their first full length album\, Mercury\, in spring of 2024 \n— \nThanks to our funders: Yukon Government\, Government of Canada\, Canada Council for the Arts \nSpecial thanks to the Dawson City Music Festival Association for bringing Sarah up to participate in their Goldensides Studio programming.

SUMMARY:Khari Wendell McClelland Celebrating 20 Years of DCMF’s Songwriter-in-Residence Program
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 15\, 2025\nDënäkär Zho / KIAC Ballroom\nDoors at 7:30 PM\, Music at 8:00 PM \nTo buy tickets\, click here! \nIn 2025\, the Dawson City Music Festival (DCMF) will celebrate 20 years of its Songwriter-in-Residence program. To mark this milestone\, KIAC and DCMF have teamed up for a concert series that brings back some of the most beloved participants from the past two decades. \nThe second show in the series features a full-band performance by Khari Wendell McClelland from Vancouver (BC). Khari was DCMF’s 10th Songwriter-in-Residence in 2015. He made a lasting impression on the Dawson community\, organizing a choir that continued to perform together long after his residency. \nWe are excited to welcome Khari back to Dawson City for a weeklong mini-residency. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved beyond his performance on February 15th. \nABOUT KHARI WENDELL MCCLELLAND \nOriginally from Detroit\, Khari Wendell McClelland has become a darling on the Canadian music scene\, with critics praising his performances as a clever mix of soul and gospel. Khari’s songwriting crosses genres and generations\, joyfully invoking the spirit of his ancestors who straddled the US-Canadian border in efforts to escape slavery and discrimination. His music draws from this rich history\, integrating the rhythms and folklore of early African-Americans with contemporary sounds and stories of struggle. Recently\, Khari received critical acclaim for his Freedom Singer project\, recreating the music fugitive slaves carried on their journey north into Canada. Khari also performs with the Roots Gospel group The Sojourners. Whether on stage or in the studio\, Khari’s passion for community\, equality and justice is palpable\, as is his belief in the redemptive power of music. \nThanks to our funders and partners:\nCanada Council for the Arts | Government of Canada | Yukon Government | Park Canada | North Klondyke Highway Music Society

This strong combination has given wings to a music career that’s seen her tour North America\, Europe\, China\, and India. Bonnie has released two full length albums\, one Ep\, and has recorded as a side person on numerous albums. \nVIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovo3k5z2644 \n– \nThanks to our funders – Government of Canada\, Yukon Government\, Canada Council For the Arts

SUMMARY:Muster Point Live Concert
DESCRIPTION:Co-Presented by Jazz Yukon\nAdmission by donation (at the door)\nDoors open – 7:30 / Music – 8:00\nFeaturing a short opening set by David Johnston III \nMuster Point is Yukon’s contemporary instrumental collective. The rotating lineup brings together artists with backgrounds in jazz\, classical\, rock\, hip hop\, and things in between. Featuring some of Whitehorse’s finest musicians\, Muster Point plays original music that blends and extends genres into sweeping journeys of groove. \n\n\nThe band grew out of a shared dream that live music is so much more than what can be rehearsed. Muster Point’s founding members bonded through Whitehorse’s professional breakdance scene; creating fully improvised music while reacting in realtime to the freestyle dance in front of them. These sacred hip-hop rituals tuned their minds to a different frequency and set the creative tone for Muster Point. Today\, the collective has grown to about ten artists\, with a core group of five that perform regularly. Muster Point are gearing up for the recording of an album\, and the return of their super fun\, highly anticipated weekly series at Baked Café\, this time with new guest artists and new original music. \nFeaturing: \nLogan Bennett (piano/synth/trumpet)\nWyatt Best (guitar)\nJake Paleczny (bass clarinet)\nRagn Royle (bass)\nMichel Vallières (percussion)\n\nGalen Pelley (drums) \nhttps://www.instagram.com/musterpoint_band/

Sometimes telling the truth isn’t the smartest or bravest choice. There’s a more evocative option. \nQ&A session and writing workshop about brutal honesty\, responsibility and conscience when telling your story. We will discuss each attendees personal concerns.
