DESCRIPTION:The Gallery Hop is a self-directed\, community-wide art walk that kicks off the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival\, transforming local spaces and businesses into temporary exhibition spaces\, performance venues\, and creative hubs for one night only. This event offers a unique platform for artists to showcase their work\, experiment with immersive installations\, or engage audiences through live performances and interactive experiences. \nThe Gallery Hop kicks off at the Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre from 6pm-7pm with an opening reception including refreshments\, artwork\, and films. \nCheck out the Gallery Hop Map for the full list of exhibits\, performances\, and events happening all around town from 7-10pm. \nClose out the evening with a show from John from Dawson at The Bunkhouse from 9-10pm.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening reception of Weaving the Midnight Sun\, a new exhibition celebrating the creativity and craftsmanship of Yukon fibre artists! \n Date: June 12th\, 2025 Time: 7pm – 10pm Location: ODD Gallery\, Dawson City Wine\, cheese and non-alcoholic beverages will be served Free & open to all! \n\nPresented by the Northern Fibres Guild \nWeaving the Midnight Sun is a celebration of fibre practice in the Yukon — a region shaped by long winters\, luminous summers\, and the steady rhythm of handwork passed between generations. This exhibition brings together the work of artists and makers from the Northern Fibres Guild\, an organization that has supported and nurtured Yukon fibre artists since its beginnings in 1974. \nRooted in traditional techniques like spinning\, weaving\, dyeing\, and felting\, and expanding into contemporary interpretations of textile art\, these works speak to the resourcefulness\, creativity\, and quiet resilience of making in the North. Each piece carries a unique story — of material transformed\, of time held in stitch and thread\, of ideas shared in community. \nLike the midnight sun itself\, these works radiate warmth\, clarity\, and a sense of wonder. They invite us to consider the power of slow\, intentional creation — and the ways in which fibre connects us to the land\, to each other\, and to the long thread of creative practice that we continue to weave together. \n\nWe are grateful for the support of Canada Council for the Arts along with the Yukon Tourism and Culture Arts Operating Funds

SUMMARY:From Rags to Rug: Community Loom Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:As part of Weaving the Midnight Sun and the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival\, textile artist Janice Brodie invites the public into the process of community weaving. \nUsing scraps\, old linens\, and fabric donated by Dawson locals and drawn from her own stash\, Janice will spend the day weaving a communal rug on a floor loom in the ODD Gallery. This is a celebration of reuse\, resilience\, and the stories we share through cloth. \nVisitors are welcome to stop in\, ask questions\, contribute material\, or even try weaving a few rows. Whether you participate for a moment or an hour\, your presence becomes part of the finished piece — a rug woven by many hands\, for many to enjoy. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome!

Based in Whitehorse and open to members from across the territory and beyond\, the Guild provides a welcoming space for people of all skill levels to learn\, create\, and connect. Through regular workshops\, exhibitions\, artist talks\, and social events\, we foster the exchange of knowledge\, ideas\, and inspiration among fibre lovers of all backgrounds. Our members are united by a shared appreciation for slow\, hands-on making and the rich creative possibilities of natural and reclaimed materials.
