The annual KIAC Kid's Art Camp is a day camp that introduces youth between the ages of 6 and 9 to contemporary art practices, local and visiting artists, and a variety of artistic mediums, all in a safe and fun environment. The camp consists of six one-week sessions in which participants explore practices such as animation, filmmaking, sound art, 2-dimensional art, 3-dimensional art, dioramas, and more.
Themes from 2012:
FUN UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN
Inspired by the summer Solstice, participants will work with a variety of 2-D mediums such as drawing, painting and collage. Includes a trip to Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre
to celebrate Aboriginal Day.
REDUCE, REUSE AND PUPPETEER!
Participants will learn the importance of reducing and reusing by incorporating found objects and materials to create their own puppet theatre!
After exploring various ideas of home throughout the worls, participants will construct their own homes and personalize them with painting, lighting and landscaping then bring them together to create a village!
Campers will explore the use of natural materials through pottery, learning about local plants, building their own plant presses and identification books.
MAKE SOME NOISE!
In celebration of Music Fest, participants will build their own instruments then create songs with their own music and sounds recorded from the world around them. Songs will then be aired on CFYT!
Inspired by Special Guests and the magic of the circus, campers will participate in a variety of big top activities.
