This 2-part workshop will introduce participants to soundscape composition by
exploring its history and background, listening techniques, psychoacoustics,
composition and recording. Participants will develop and edit their own compositions,
which will be aired on CFTY.

Andrew O'Connor, the current KIAC Artist in Residence, is a transmission artist based
in Toronto. His work focuses primarily on sound and listening, and ranges from
conventional radio documentaries to sound installations and works of theatre. He's
been active in community radio for over 15 years and produced numerous works for
CBC Radio - most recently a feature length documentary about composer and founder
of the Acoustic Ecology movement, R Murray Schafer. While in Dawson, he will be
creating an installation piece for a series of low watt FM transmitters as a part of the
ODD Gallery's Natural and Manufactured series.
